 FIFA Launches $50 Million Legacy Fund for Social Impact in Partnership with Global Organizations

FIFA has launched a $50 million legacy fund aimed at supporting key social programs worldwide, in collaboration with Qatar, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). This new initiative is part of FIFA's commitment to using proceeds from the 2022 World Cup to help vulnerable populations globally.

Key Focus Areas of the Legacy Fund:

1. Supporting Refugees: FIFA will work with UNHCR to improve access to basic services for refugees, offering life-saving assistance and long-term opportunities for displaced individuals. This collaboration extends the World Cup’s legacy to those affected by war and conflict.

2. Health and Safety Initiatives: FIFA will partner with WHO on its "Beat the Heat" initiative, designed to protect high-risk individuals from extreme heat, particularly in regions vulnerable to climate change.

3. Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: The fund will support the Women Exporters in the Digital Economy (WEIDE) Fund, an initiative launched by the WTO and ITC. With an initial deposit of $5 million, the legacy fund will contribute $16.6 million to economically empower women entrepreneurs worldwide.

4. Football Development: FIFA will collaborate with Qatar’s Aspire Academy and the FIFA Talent Development Scheme, led by Arsène Wenger, to identify and nurture young football talent in remote regions of developing countries, contributing to the growth of the sport globally.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized that the legacy fund aims to tackle critical global challenges such as refugee crises, health, education, and football development, creating lasting impact beyond the World Cup’s conclusion.

This initiative marks a significant step in FIFA’s mission to expand the social reach of its global events, ensuring that the World Cup legacy contributes to a more sustainable and inclusive future.
